Raising cash for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Jon Ellis will be lacing up his cycling shoes and taking to the saddle in preparation for a mammoth charity cycle ride organised by his favourite football team.
Avid Huddersfield Town fan, Jon will be pedalling for pounds from Yeovil to Huddersfield to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance ‘Keep It Up’ campaign. The Pink Link ‘Pedal for Pounds 3’ bike ride will be Huddersfield Town FC’s third charity cycle ride.
Jon will join more than 300 cyclists, including Town chairman Dean Hoyle and commercial director Sean Jarvis, to begin the 280 mile ride at Huish Park, Yeovil, on the morning of Wednesday May 2, arriving at Huddersfield’s Galpharm Stadium on Saturday May 5 just in time for Huddersfield Town’s last home game of the season.
It costs £7,200 per day to keep both Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopters operational and all the money raised from the ride, which will stop off in Bath, Solihull and Sheffield on the way, will go to the ‘Keep it Up’ campaign.
Jon says: "The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is our company’s chosen charity and is a very worthy cause. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a rapid response life-saving service to around five million people, seven days a week, 365 days a year and relies on charity funds to keep going.
"I took part in the Huddersfield to Brighton cycle ride last year for the Keep It Up Campaign and this year I’m hoping to raise at least £2,500 through my Just Giving page."
Help support a great cause and make a donation through Jon’s  page on the Just Giving website.

Bob Chinn advises Ferno UK to get fighting fit

We were delighted to welcome Bob Chinn, managing director of Ferno Military and Ferno Aviation in the US, to our UK headquarters in Cleckheaton last week.
Bob has many years experience offering emergency medical services to the US military and aviation sector where we have developed an impressive portfolio of products and services. You can find out more about Ferno Military Systems here and Ferno Aviation here.
Bob was in the UK to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with the team here in order to assist us with the launch of new products into the UK military sector. Bob really invigorated the team and left us with lots of ideas on how we can continue to deliver the best possible EMS solutions to this crucial sector.
As part of that strategy we have recently made a new appointment to oversee the company’s continued expansion into the military sector and drive forward its after-sales service.
Mark Richards joins Ferno as a Specialist Business Development Manager with more than 15 years experience in sales and customer account management. He will work on a number of business development projects across the UK, including building relationships and growing sales within the Ministry of Defence, developing Ferno’s Service Division and lead training for key clients and Ferno partner companies.

Check out our new Evacuation Audit

We’ve launched a new consulting service to ensure companies keep their people safe in the event of an emergency evacuation.
A significant number of Ferno customers operating across a whole range of industries and sectors are struggling with new health and safety legislation such as the Equality Act 2010 and the fire safety Regulatory Reform Order 2005.
These two major changes in law mean companies have to take responsibility for the evacuation of everyone on their site, whether they are employees, visitors or contractors, and that particular attention needs to be paid to procedures for disabled, injured or unwell persons. As a result we have developed an Evacuation Audit service which helps companies understand what measures they must put in place to quickly and safely evacuate a building and comply with regulations.
The Ferno Evacuation Audit is a new form of risk assessment which considers all aspects of an emergency evacuation including the management of disabled people, treating the injured, the effects of smoke, lighting and crowd control.
Buildings which have to comply with the new legislation include offices and shops, factories and warehouses, residential care and educational premises, theatres, cinemas, healthcare and transport premises and places of assembly - large or small.
Our work with the emergency services means that our staff are experts in all aspects of emergency evacuation planning. A Ferno Evacuation Audit ensures that companies meet all their obligations under existing legislation.

Brian to lead 2012 American Red Cross Heroes campaign

Congratulations to Brian Bourgraf, one of our colleagues across the Pond in the US, who has been appointed to lead the 2012 American Red Cross Heroes campaign. Brian is the Clinton County chair for the organisation.
The Heroes of the American Red Cross fundraising campaign for 2012 is an eight-week campaign that starts with the Heroes Awards Breakfast next week at the Roberts Centre north of Wilmington.
Money raised through the Heroes Campaign supports critical disaster relief, assistance to military families, and lifesaving courses that teach CPR, first aid and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator. In 2011, the Clinton and Highland County DAT team volunteers responded to 31 disaster incidents and assisted 105 clients. More than $17,260 in assistance was given for military and disaster relief efforts.
Through the Holiday Mail for Heroes program, over 3,380 cards were sent to members of the military and their families. Last year the Red Cross touched over 5,800 people in Clinton and Highland County with disaster, military, and health and safety services.
Brian (pictured) tells us: "I accepted the role of co-chair once again because I believe in the American Red Cross and what it does to aid the residents of Clinton and Highland counties. I have been involved with Red Cross efforts for many years now and I continue to play an active role in the organisation locally because I feel it is such a worthy cause to support. We hope to have a successful campaign this year to enable us to continue to give back."
Brian, vice president of Community Relations at Ferno-Washington, and has been with us since  1990 and lives in Wilmington with his wife, Cathy.

Saying thanks to the paramedics

Ben Bowman and his mates
We recently noticed that a university student is collecting messages of recognition and thanks for paramedics on the ThanksTo.com website where they have set up a page for people to say thank you to these life savers.
Ben Bowman has joined up with three friends from Bristol University to raise awareness for an unsung heroes. Ben and his friends chose paramedics because a friend of theirs was left with brain injuries following a fall while he was out one night.
Ben and his friends are looking for people to express their thanks for paramedics like those who helped Simon after his fall.
He said: "We’ve attempted to raise as many words of thanks for the paramedics. We feel the work they do is often undervalued and they rarely get the recognition they deserve.
"We aren’t asking for people’s money but just for everyone to join and support us in giving the paramedics a small thank you."
So far they have collected more than 2,000 messages of thanks, many of them received within a week of them starting their campaign.
Needless to say, Ferno have offered our own words of support.

On the ball with Brighouse Rangers

Rugby league hopefuls Brighouse Junior AFC with their new kit
We’re on the ball again at Ferno supporting rugby league hopefuls Brighouse Rangers with a new set of kit.
Ferno has helped the club buy new kit for Brighouse Rangers’ Under 12s team and the team of budding rugby players showed their appreciation with a fantastic start to the season when they beat Dewsbury Moor Juniors by 24 to nil.
It was great to see Brighouse Juniors’ Under 12s make their debut in Ferno-sponsored kit with such an emphatic victory and we will be following their progress throughout the season with some interest.
Ferno is keen to support local initiatives like this and we are involved in many charitable and sporting organisations in and around Cleckheaton and where our staff live. This includes our main charitable interest in Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The Brighouse Rangers Under 12s’ manager, Ferno’s very own Vicky Woodford, said: "Without this kind of help and assistance from local businesses we couldn’t manage as the cost of running a team is very expensive. We would like to thank Ferno and all sponsors on behalf of the entire club members here at Brighouse, as without you, none of this would be possible."

Ferno on the field: Liverpool v Arsenal

Another week. Another game. Another injury. Ferno was on the field again on Saturday – this time in the Premium league clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield.
The Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta was involved in an incident with Jordan Henderson that led to the Spaniard having to be rushed to hospital. He was stretched off the field of play on a Ferno Saver Basket Stretcher – a not uncommon sighting of one of our products.
Arteta has spoken of his terror after suffering concussion during Arsenal's 2-1 win over Liverpool. The 29-year-old left the field to applause from both sets of supporters and admits the injury was a scary one.
"I have suffered the biggest fear of my life," Arteta told Radio Marca. "I only remember the fall by the blow and nothing after. It was terrifying but now I am better.
"Sincerely, I do not remember too much apart from the impact. I have heard people applauded me as I left the field and I am grateful for this reception."
Arteta's recovery has been swift and the player already has an eye on Arsenal's next opponents in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Ferno on the field: England v Holland

Ferno was on the field of play again last night - this time in the international “friendly” between England and Holland.
The greatest concern was for Chris Smalling who suffered a clash of heads with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Both players were taken to hospital, after having to be revived on the pitch, and underwent scans.
Smalling was stretchered off on a Ferno Model 71 basket stretcher which then got put onto a York 4 trolley at Wembley.
“Chris Smalling took a really bad bang on the head, split it open and has gone to hospital,” England caretaker manager Stuart Pearce said. “I spoke to him as he came off the pitch so he was conscious.” Similarly Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk expressed his concern over Huntelaar.
Daniel Sturridge later limped off with what Pearce described as a “blow on the toe” and there were fears last night that he may have suffered a fracture while the man the Chelsea striker replaced in the first half,
