Committed to the environment

In line with our environmental policy Ferno is committed to sustainable waste management through reducing our consumption of materials, encouraging re-use where possible and promoting recycling and the use of recycled materials. When disposal is the only option we will seek to dispose of materials in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Recycling is also engineered in to our products and we currently. We currently recycle Aluminium, Steel, Stainless steel, Cardboard, Oil and all electrical items as part of the WEE Directive.
And from tomorrow we will begin recycling all organic matter and food waste in our Sales, Finance and Technical offices.
Given out commitment to the environmental, we also:
  • Advise staff on how to minimise the production of waste by the use of waste reduction techniques.
  • Give guidance and information to staff to facilitate their participation in the recycling of their waste.
  • Provide staff training that enables waste reduction and maximises the volume of materials recycled.
  • Monitor the volume of waste that is sent to landfill and the volume that is recycled.
  • Encourage the purchase of recycled materials and those which are suitable for disposal by recycling.
  • Develop a waste management strategy which accommodates recycling procedures and initiatives.
  • Develop a range of company-wide recycling schemes.

Ferno on the field: Aston Villa v Wigan

Ferno was on the field of play again last weekend - this time in the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Wigan when Darren Bent was carried off on a Ferno Model 71 basket stretcher.
Unfortunately Bent is unlikely to play again this season after rupturing ankle ligaments in his foot.
Bent suffered the injury in the 0-0 draw and the extent of the damage was confirmed after he visited a specialist in London on Monday.
The club said Bent faced "up to 12 weeks" on the sidelines after hurting his left ankle.
The 28-year-old admitted his disappointment via Twitter on Monday night, writing: "I'm gutted to be out for so long at such a crucial part of the season, hopefully my recovery will be as quick as possible.
He added: "Thank you to everyone for your messages of support."

I’m pedaling for pounds

Ferno have chosen the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as our charity of choice. My contribution towards the fund raising challenge is that I have signed up for The Pedal for Pounds III bike ride from Yeovil to Huddersfield 280 mile ride in aid of the "Keep It Up campaign". It costs £7,200 per day to keep both YAA helicopters operational all from charitable funds!
The ride, which will leave the Huish Park, Yeovil on the morning of Wednesday 2 May 2012, will see 300 cyclists over 3 1/2 days arriving at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield on Saturday 5 May in time for Town’s last home game of the 2011/12 season!
Stopping off in Bath, Solihull, Sheffield and then onto Huddersfield,  all money raised from the event will go towards the ‘Keep It Up campaign’, which supports the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Help support a great cause and make a donation through my page on the Just Giving website here. And yes - that is a picture of me!

Ferno on the field

Virtually every weekend on football pitches around the UK a Ferno stretcher or similar product will make an appearance when a player is brought down or is injured.
This weekend was no exception and the eagle eyed among you might have spotted one of our Saver Basket Stretchers at Anfield.
As Liverpool demolished Brighton in a six to one victory (won incidentally with three own goals from the visitors) the stretcher was brought on to take off Liam Bridcutt after he put two goals in the back of his own net.

Starring role for Ferno on Channel 5

Ferno is set for a starring role in a new Channel 5 series which follows the men and women whose job it is to look after the nation and its ‘growing needs’.
With nearly a million morbidly obese people in England, ambulance teams, fire crews, carers, and others are having to adapt to be able to provide a service for Britain’s ‘Big Society’.

We have developed a range of specialist equipment including ambulance trolleys, wheel chairs, evacuation chairs and hospital trollets which will appear on Channel 5's new fly-on-the-wall documentary Big Body Squad.
Ferno managing director Jon Ellis said: "The number of morbidly obese people in England has doubled since 2000 and in the next ten years it is predicted that more than a third of people in England will be obese.
"As a result over the past ten years we have developed a range of bariatric equipment to help hospitals and the emergency services safely deal with larger patients, as well as allowing for a more dignified approach. The success of our equipment means Ferno products feature prominently in several medical dramas and documentaries - Big Body Squad is just our latest starring role."
Big Body Squad will follow the supersized ambulance teams, fire crews, equipment specialists and carers across the UK as they deal with the associated complications and risks that come with mobilising an obese nation.
As the nation grows in size, so must ambulances, beds, and other medical equipment in order to assist the morbidly obese such as hoists and lifts, and heavy duty medical equipment.
Big Body Squad will give a thorough insight into all aspects of the specialist training and the risks associated with dealing with these patients.
The show will follow the specialist ambulance teams who take to the road in their £90,000 adapted ambulances designed to transport plus size people, meet the crews and their patients, and learn about life on both sides of the stretcher. The show will also explore what it is like to be so large that for some people even simple every day tasks become impossible and so require carers to assist them.
