Ferno UK ladies complete the “Race for Life” in aid of Cancer Research

Over the weekend two Ferno UK employees, Fiona Carrington-Ward and Andrea Farrow completed the “Race for Life”.

Events like “Race for Life” are vital in helping to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. You will notice from the photo that Fiona, Andrea and their two friends went through the pain barrier to achieve this gruelling challenge! Let’s hope they have raised plenty of sponsorship since I know they were both looking to their colleagues to dig deep in support.

One day we will beat cancer through research. Challenges like the one that Fiona and Andrea undertook this weekend will help make it sooner!

Well done ladies.

Happy Birthday Ferno Australia – 40 years old today!

Today, we would like to send our friends and colleagues at Ferno Australia our very best birthday wishes.

Our sister company based in Brisbane, Queensland was founded on 28th June 1974. That makes them 40 years old today.

We hope our friends and colleagues “down under” have a wonderful day celebrating 40 years of solid growth and success as a Ferno Group company.

We have sent our colleagues in Australia a birthday gift of a specially engraved clock (40 years – how time flies!) on behalf of Ferno UK. We hope they will enjoy the gift (see attached photo) and have a wonderful “Aussie style” party to celebrate their 40 glorious years as a Ferno Group company.

Happy Birthday Ferno Australia on behalf of all your friends and colleagues here at Ferno UK. Have a great day!

Happy 40th Birthday Scott

Our colleague Scott Campbell reaches the ripe old age of FORTY today.

Scott is Ferno’s Business Development Manager for Scotland and the North East of England. He joined Ferno on 2rd April 2013 and has been very successful in growing our business in the North East and Scotland regions over the past 18 months.

Scott is a popular member of our Commercial team. He lives in Dunfermline, just north of Edinburgh with his family. He is a devoted Glasgow Rangers football supporter. Well, we all have our crosses to bear Scott!

Scott won’t be able to celebrate his “Big 40” birthday with us in person here at Ferno House because he is on holiday. However, we sent him a little something in the post to help him enjoy his day from all his friends and colleagues at Ferno.

Happy Birthday Scott and many happy returns. We hope you have a wonderful birthday and a great holiday.

Happy Birthday Ferno Canada – 20 years old today!

Today, we would like to send our friends and colleagues at Ferno Canada our very best birthday wishes.

Our sister company based in Mississauga which is close to Toronto, was founded on 26th June 1994. That makes them 20 years old today.

We hope our friends and colleagues in Canada will have a wonderful day celebrating 20 years of solid growth and success as a Ferno Group company.

Ferno Canada’s 20th birthday also coincides with a business trip to Ferno Canada for our Managing Director – Jon Ellis and our Operations Director – Alan Clark.

Jon and Alan, on behalf of Ferno UK, will present Ferno Canada with a gift of three framed pieces of limited edition art, all of which depict the heroic involvement of Canadian soldiers during the Great War (First World War). Below are images of two of the pieces of art which are our gift to Ferno Canada.

We are sure Jon and Alan will do a great job of helping our friends and colleagues in Canada celebrate their 20th birthday. Happy Birthday Ferno Canada from all your friends and colleagues here at Ferno UK. Have a great day!

This impressive print called “The Ghosts of Vimy Ridge” is the work of an Australian Captain William Longstaff and it depicts Canadian soldiers' ghosts marching up Vimy Ridge from the Douai Plain, returning to the memorial. This is a very powerful image which captures the memory of this epic four day battle which cost 10,602 Canadian lives.
The second print features caricatures of soldiers of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry standing at the Menin Gate Memorial to the fallen, with maple leafs falling around them.

More news from the DVD Exhibition

Here is another photo from the DVD Exhibition at Millbrook in Bedfordshire.

It shows Ferno’s Victoria Woodford giving a lift to a very tired delegate in one of our wonderful “ANT”  Basket Stretchers. The ANT is constructed from TIG-welded Titanium tubing. It has a superior strength to weight ratio and is specifically designed to perform in a technical rescue environment. The titanium construction allows the “ANT” to survive in almost all conditions, whilst it’s design allows for a user friendly platform from which to work. The “ANT” is the ultimate basket stretcher for use in tight interior spaces such as aircraft during rescue missions.

We are sure the happy delegate appreciated his brief sojourn in such a high quality product!

Ferno exhibit at DVD Exhibition

On 25th & 26th June, Ferno exhibited at the DVD2014 Exhibition in Millbrook, Bedfordshire. DVD is one of the most important events in the defence diary for those involved in the equipment and support for the UK's Land Forces. DVD is Defence Equipment and Support's (DE&S) annual stakeholder event for the Land Equipment community. DVD brings together the defence acquisition community with military personnel and industry organisations for two days of informal discussion and briefings.
Yet again it was a successful exhibition for Ferno with interest in our military and rescue products. The photograph shows Ferno Business Development Managers – Mark Richards & Steve Kerr manning our stand at DVD earlier today.

Five Minutes Of Fame

Fame at last. Our “Midnight Memory Walker” ladies (Penny North & Vicki Bray) have made the big time! They completed the 10 mile charity walk in aid of Kirkwood Hospice which started at midnight on Saturday night / Sunday morning. The next thing you know they are featured in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner. By the way the advertisement next to the photo stating “Buy one get one free” is not in relation to Penny & Vicki! Well done once again ladies.

Ferno support Overgate Hospice Charity Golf Day

For the past four years, Ferno have been invited to attend the annual charity golf day at Bradley Hall Golf Club. Halifax.  Once again this year our Operations Director – Alan Clark (on the right of the photograph) attended on behalf of Ferno.

This event was held on Friday 20th June and is held annually in aid of the Overgate Hospice, who provide specialist palliative care for the people of Calderdale living with a life limiting illness. The charity’s philosophy of care is for the whole person, their family, friends and carers and we have been privileged to meet several of their helpers over the years.

The golf day raises much-needed funds for the charity, with last year’s event raising well over £10,000.  Our invitation to attend came from Ferno’s consultant patent and trademark attorney; Hugh Sherrard-Smith (on the left of the attached photograph) who has helped protect Ferno products over many years.

The golf day is a friendly competition held with teams of three playing over 18 holes. It is open to both ladies and men.  This year’s Appleyard Lees team comprised of Alan, Hugh and Lubra who is the the wife of one of the attorneys.

They had a great round of golf scoring 69 points under Stableford rules over the 18 holes and finishing with a good chance of winning one of the many prizes.  The later teams were still playing when they finished their round so the jury is still out regarding the final results……who knows, we may have a winning team in the making!  We will keep you posted!

Ferno ladies to take part in the Midnight Memory Walk 2014

On Saturday 21st June two members of the Ferno Commercial Team – Penny North and Vicki Bray, will take part in the Kirkwood Hospice’s 7th Midnight Memory Walk.

The 10 mile walk around Kirklees, starts and finishes at the John Smith’s Stadium. The walk starts at midnight on the longest day of the year. All who walk are doing so in memory of someone near and dear to them who is no longer with us.

Penny lost both her mum and dad over the past few years and both her mum and dad spent their last days at Kirkwood Hospice. If you look closely at Penny’s official “Midnight Memory Walk” T-shirt in the above picture, you will notice that the T-shirt includes photos of Penny’s parents. This walk is therefore something close to Penny’s heart as all funds raised go to Kirkwood Hospice.

Ladies – we hope you enjoy the walk and we bet you are looking forward to the bacon butty and hot drink supplied to each walker by the organisers at the end of the 10 mile challenge.

Happy 70th birthday to Terry Jacques

Congratulations to Terry Jacques on his 70th Birthday today, it doesn’t seem two minutes since he retired from Ferno UK 5 years ago. The photo above is of Terry receiving his Salesman’s bible from the founder of Ferno UK, Les Harris!!

Wishing Terry best wishes and have a fab day today from all your friends and colleagues at Ferno UK!

Peter celebrates a decade with Ferno

Ten years ago today, our Senior Production Operative, Peter Harrison, started his career with us at Ferno.

He’s seen many changes over this time but he has always remained dedicated and committed to helping us achieve excellent quality.

Peter won’t be having a quiet weekend to celebrate his ten years of service with Ferno. As Captain of his Golf Club, he’s running their Captain’s Weekend over the next couple of days. Good luck with that Peter and we hope the weather stays dry and sunny for you.

Congratulations and thanks for all you have done over the past ten years from everyone  at Ferno!

Watch out for our Ferno World Class products at the World Cup

The FIFA World Cup Finals start tonight in São Paulo, Brazil . The opening game between the hosts and Croatia kicks off at 9pm UK time.

There will be many World Class players involved in the competition and we are also confident that if you watch closely you will see a number of World Class Ferno products making an appearance over the coming few weeks.

Watch out for our Ferno World Class products including the “Mondial” trolley and the “Scoop” orthopaedic stretcher

England kick off their opening game on Saturday against Italy. Let’s hope that we not only celebrate an England win this weekend but that no Ferno products are required to “assist” our boys with the three lions on their shirts.

Enjoy the football.

Lest we forget

In August 2014, the world will mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.  There cannot be many people today whose family were not in some way touched by World War One. Our Operations Director – Alan Clark – and his family are testament to this. Even with the passage of a century, it’s a war many of us are very familiar with.

We see memorials in every village, town and city in our country and we are all familiar with the national acts of remembrance held every November.

Whilst images of the fighting in the mud and trenches of the Western Front remain vivid and powerful, the Great War was also fought on many other fronts which may not be that familiar to us. It was fought across the continents, at sea and in the air. It was fought by servicemen from Asia, North America, the Caribbean, Australasia and Africa. It was also a war that gave rise to technological innovation and scientific discovery.

Those involved in the Great War suffered hardship and made sacrifices beyond our modern day comprehension. As the Centenary of the 1914–18 war approaches, we should ensure we do everything we can so as not to forget. If we want to understand today, we need to know and remember what happened yesterday.

In April of this year our Operations Director – Alan Clark and two of his friends and military colleagues – Peter Grant and James Quin, fulfilled a long held ambition to visit the World War I battlefields and memorials of northern France and Belgium. Alan served 27 years in the Royal Air Force and was involved during the conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and the Gulf. His great uncle – George Henry Cook - was killed in Ypres during the Great War and Alan wanted to travel to the battlefields to visit his great uncle’s war grave and pay his respects.

During his trip, Alan also laid wreaths on behalf of Ferno UK and our sister companies in Canada, Australia and the USA in honour and remembrance of everyone from these countries who died during the Great War.

The attached video is a portrayal of Alan’s visit to the WW1 battlefields. We hope you will watch the video and find it an interesting, sobering and moving experience.

A day which should never be forgotten

Exactly seventy years ago today, the sun rose over the coast of northern France – heralding a day which should never be forgotten.

150,000 brave allied soldiers risked their lives during the D-Day landings. The D-Day invasion marked a turning point during World War II, cracking Hitler’s Western Front as the brave soldiers who landed on the beaches of northern France, then fought the Battle of Normandy which eventually led to the liberation of Paris by the Allied armies.

More than 8,000 brave soldiers gave their lives on the 6th June 1944 during the D-Day landings.

Today we join the veterans of D-Day to pay honour and tribute to their fallen colleagues – those brave souls who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

We also honour all of the brave 150,000 soldiers who landed on those beaches on this day 70 years ago.

Today, let us remember those brave patriots – the British, American, Canadian, Australian and other Allied Troops - who through their courage and sacrifice changed the course of history.

Greetings from the Blue & Amber Light Fleet Exhibition

Greetings once again from the Blue & Amber Light Fleet Exhibition at the Telford International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Our stand ( number 123 in Hall 3 ) has been very busy with significant interest in our products, particularly the Ferno "Acetech" integrated vehicle intelligence system.

Thanks to all Ferno staff who have done a great job of manning our stand and engaging our customers. Thanks also to all our customers - new and existing - who came to visit us on our stand.

Below is a photo of the smallest ambulance we have ever seen which has been driving around the exhibition centre. When they asked for "guinea pigs" to test drive this ambulance, they literally meant guinea pigs!
