Ferno products on show at the Commonwealth Games

At just over eight minutes in to the netball match between Northern Ireland and Jamaica, one of the Jamaican players suffered an injury. Obviously that was bad news but the good news was that Ferno products were in the wings ready to help the medical staff safely deal with the injured player.
On came the Ferno Model 71 Basket Stretcher, Scoop Stretcher and Combi Head Immobiliser. The photos below show this system of products being used in combination to immobilise the injured player and carry her safely from the netball court to receive medical attention.

Something a little out of the ordinary

We love it when we are out and about and spot a Ferno product being used -particularly, when it is something a little out of the ordinary!
Last weekend our eagle-eyed MD – Jon Ellis attended the Latitude Festival in Suffolk. In addition to enjoying some great music and fine weather – he also spotted this unusual combination of Ferno products.
The attached photos were taken at the First Aid triage area of the main arena at Latitude.
Events Medical Services Limited had a Ferno Scoop EXL stretcher on standby for any casualties. You will see from the photos that it also had an interesting stretcher carrier underneath the Scoop which utilised an old York 4 trolley top frame adapted with a bicycle frame undercarriage. This was adapted in this way for ease of use over difficult terrain. Has anyone ever seen or used one of these before? If so please get in touch with us and your name will be entered into a free prize draw…

Congratulations to our colleague Veronica Fishley

Congratulations to our colleague Veronica Fishley and her family. Veronica works in our Supply Chain Department here at Ferno House. On Saturday 19th July, she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. The little fellow has been named Quincy and he weighed in at 6lbs 12oz. Mum and baby are both doing well and we look forward to seeing Veronica again soon and to meeting Quincy.

Partnering in the Community: Careers Open Day

Andy Booth, Ambassador from Huddersfield Town Football Club presenting pupils with a certificate.

On Wednesday 16th July, Ferno hosted a careers “Open Day” for Year 10 pupils from Westborough High School, as part of their “Community Week”. They experienced a wide range of activities relating to Ferno’s business. They also gave presentations in front of their friends and teachers, coming up with new product ideas, creative designs and demonstrating our new iN/X trolley.

They came up with some great ideas and undertook tasks which were completely new to them, with great confidence and professionalism. They picked up the iN/X controls easily and gave a great demonstration of the product. Even the ‘patient’ was relaxed in the end!

Thank you to all the pupils involved, the staff who helped to organise the visit and to Andy Booth (pictured) from Huddersfield Town who presented the pupils with a certificate of attendance. Also thanks to all our staff here at Ferno House who were involved in making the day an enjoyable and informative experience for our guests.

We hope our guests learnt something by visiting us today. It was a real pleasure for us to be involved.

Thank you to our friends at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Ferno would like to say a big “thank you” today to our good friends at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Yorkshire Ambulance Service helped us out today by allowing Gerry Slade (Emergency Care Assistant - Halifax Station) and Karl Harrison (Paramedic - Leeds Station) to assist us in the filming of our new corporate video by providing us with an ambulance and crew for the day.

Our Managing Director - Jon Ellis said: “The professionalism and experience that both Gerry and Karl have is first class and it was great to have them with us today at Ferno”.

Karl and Gerry had the opportunity to become familiar with our new iN/X Integrated Patient Transport & Loading System. The YAS crew both remarked how easy it was to use after only using the product for less than 30 minutes! Thank you both very much.

“Team Ferno” complete Tour de France “Curtain Raiser”

This morning the “Team Ferno” cyclists completed a Marathon bike ride from Tadcaster to our head office in Cleckheaton. The team completed the 27.1 mile cycle ride before lunch! There were no casualties and everyone could still walk at the end of the epic journey.

The bike ride was a curtain raiser for a series of events which are being held today at Ferno HQ, to celebrate the start of the 2014 Tour de France in Leeds tomorrow morning. The Team consisted of 9 Ferno staff members including representatives of the Senior Management Team and some very keen and very fit cyclists (you know who you are). Our MD – Jon Ellis led the Peloton and a special mention must go to Jo Ryan – our HR Partner who was the sole female member of the team.

Log on to the YouTube video above if you want to see highlights of the epic bike ride.

Happy Independence Day

Everyone here at Ferno UK would like to wish our friends and colleagues at Ferno-Washington Inc. in the USA, a very happy 4th of July. We hope you enjoy your Independence Day celebrations.

Tour de France – by ‘eck!

The very first Tour de France started outside the Café Reveil-Matin in the village of Montgeron in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris on 1st July 1903.

On Saturday 5th July 2014, this year’s Tour de France will start just down the road from Gregg’s Bakery in City Centre Leeds. By ‘eck – what a long way the race has come!

To celebrate this auspicious event Ferno are organising a celebration for our staff on Friday 4th July at our Cleckheaton Head Office. There will be lots of cycling (and World Cup Football) related fun with a few surprises in store.

The day starts with Ferno staff undertaking a marathon distance (26 mile) cycle ride from Tadcaster to our Cleckheaton offices. The “Grand Depart” will take place at 08.30 hours from Sainsbury’s car park in Tadcaster. We estimate that the “Ferno Peloton” will arrive at Ferno HQ sometime before Christmas!

Those of us taking part in this epic cycle ride expect a warm welcome from our colleagues (with lots of hot coffee and breakfast sandwiches) when we finally arrive at HQ.

We will be showcasing ACETECH vehicle intelligence and management system at Ambulex

We will be attending the “Ambulex” exhibition at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on 9th – 10th July where we will be showcasing a number of our products including the “ACETECH” vehicle intelligence and management system.

Ambulex is the only UK exhibition exclusively targeting ambulances, ambulance support, emergency rescue vehicles and related equipment. It attracts delegates from the public and private ambulance services including fleet managers and other emergency rescue services personnel.

You will find the Ferno team at stand number 43.

ACETECH is our fully-integrated vehicle performance monitoring and control system for ambulances and other emergency response vehicles. It provides on-board intelligence to improve vehicle efficiency and safety, whilst reducing operating and fuel costs.

Our Managing Director Jon Ellis says: “For more than 40 years, our customers have relied on Ferno for best-in-class professional emergency and healthcare products that increase efficiency and enhance safety for patients and personnel”.

“ACETECH’s technology is a natural fit for our product line. It is a fully-integrated efficiency optimisation solution. The savings in fuel costs alone are considerable. When combined with increased personnel productivity, the return on investment for fleet owners and managers is significant. We’re delighted to offer this leading edge technology to our customers.”

We will also showcase its EZGlide Powertraxx chair designed to safely move patients up and down stairs at the touch of a button. It has multiple uses as a stair chair, evacuation chair or transport chair - capable of manoeuvring over kerbs and rough terrain. The EZGlide Powertraxx chair also comes with powered tracks that deploy easily to eliminate the need for lifting or carrying while ascending or descending stairs, reducing the risk of injury to medical staff.

Patients can be moved up and down stairs safely and the operator has full control at all times; able to slow, stop or even reverse direction at the touch of a button. A patented built-in safety circuit limits downhill speed, even when power has been lost.

The EZGlide Powertraxx chair leads the industry with its 227kg weight capacity and large seating area which along with the extending footrest, provides a more comfortable experience for larger patients. The innovative features work with the caregivers to ensure safer transportation for everyone involved.

Other Ferno products on show will include the Compact 2 Track chair, the Finger Pulse Oximeter and bio-safe harnesses and restraints.

The Compact 2 Track chair is both a carry and track chair in one, enhancing patient security and reducing the burden of manual handling and the risk of injury for users.

The chair has an attachable track for transporting patients downstairs. This means that emergency services no longer need to have two different chairs (carry chair and track chair), helping to reduce equipment costs and the overall weight of their vehicle whilst increasing storage space.

So if you are attending Ambulex please come and visit us as at stand 43.
